Dear Teachers and Staff,
Oral health problems cause children to miss school on a regular bases and are the cause of frequent visits to the school health office. In addition, a child in pain cannot concentrate so a toothache also inhibits the learning process.
We are partnering with a school based dental program that specializes in performing dental care for children that may otherwise not receive care. A dentist will visit the school approximately once every 4-8 weeks. While out of class, the children are also taught how to care for their teeth and only about 14 children are seen in a given day. It only takes around 45 minutes per child.
Consent forms were put in your box for you to distribute to your students 1st pd. this week. Please help us get a high response rate so that we can remove barriers to learning for students suffering from poor oral health. All forms should be returned to the health office as soon as possible.
