2020 Virtual Summer School!
For all 7th grade.... well incoming 8th grade Scorpions, There is an exciting opportunity for you! This year's summer school will be held entirely online, and is project based! There will be language arts and math for you to brush up on those subjects, as well as potentially enriching classes. You must have your own device to participate. In the list of attachments is the registration form that must be returned to the SLMS office as soon as possible. I REALLY hope to have some of you sign up!

Learning Objective: This week, I will get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day, by following the links and/or files and completing the activities provided.
Success Criteria
1) Follow the links or click the attachments
2) Practice the exercises/activities mentioned in the different links/pdf files. Research any unfamiliar exercises
3) Keep your heart rate above 120 beats per minute for at least one hour everyday.
Activity
Use the link and attachments provided to get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. Track your heart rate to try to stay over 120 beats. If you don't like the activity, quit and pick a new one. Check the "update stream" often as new activities will be added regularly.

"Disc Golf at Home" attachment is an easy to follow game that I typed up. What's nice about it is you can use almost anything around the house to play!
"Target Practice" attachment is a really easy, really fun game to challenge yourself, or someone else at home.

"Curry" attachment is a photo featuring the benefits of Stef Curry's shot (basketball). Remember you you can play basketball anywhere with anything!
"Dribble Routine" attachment is a great video for helping your basketball handling skills, and it's a great exercise for your upper body. You don't even need a basketball to do these, use anything that resembles a ball.
"Bballathome" attachment is maybe my favorite video yet. These guys know their stuff. 9 minutes of exercises and routines that you can EASILY do at home or wherever. Very little space needed. Exercises target basketball movements and motions, but also very good for fitness training. Check this one out!!!!

I can't find a video that will download, so you will have to find it on your own (it's easy). search "cha cha slide plank challenge". It's a pretty tough exercise that goes to that cha cha slide song. This is for those looking for a good challenge

Remember, if you are going to do alot of strength exercise, go every other day for each part of the body. Example, Monday upper body, Tuesday lower body, Wednesday upper body, Thursday lower body, etc. If you are still sore from last time, wait another day. Always warm up before any/all exercises!

1) Vary your exercises so that ALL muscles are worked during workout
2) Mix up what parts of your body are being used.. example being 30 second legs, 30 second arms, 30 second core.... repeat.

"Speed Training" attachment is a video showing many different, easy, exercises that you can do at home. These exercises are all high speed, high intensity, and thus, will improve your sprint speed. Remember to warm up before doing these, and stick to the same reps and sets that they recommend.
"FastTvsSlowT" attachment is a short video teaching you the difference between fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. This is such an easy to way to learn how to train your muscles more specifically.

Well there's a new workout style that seems to be getting very popular. It's called "Tabata". It's basically a series of high intensity interval trainings. The formula is kind of like this......
1) Do a high intensity exercise for 20 seconds
2) Rest for 10 seconds
3) Repeat eight times
4) Repeat steps 1-3 with a different exercise
5) Repeat
2) Rest for 10 seconds
3) Repeat eight times
4) Repeat steps 1-3 with a different exercise
5) Repeat
There are TONS of videos online to help you. I highly recommend trying these routines or at least researching them. A lot of studies have shown very good results, in less time.

Join My Google Classroom!
Objective: Today, I will access and familiarize myself with the "google classroom" for PE by using the group code and resources on the page.
IMPORTANT! IF YOU HAVE HAVING TROUBLE GETTING INTO THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM PAGE, CLICK THE ATTACHMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE (GCInstructions.mov) TO DOWNLOAD A VIDEO THAT WILL HELP YOU. IF YOU FORGOT YOUR STUDENT ID, EMAIL ME, AND I WILL FIND IT FOR YOU!
Success Criteria:
1) Student uses the group code "7mfy5cb" at google classroom to enter "Physical Education 2019-2020" page. Must use your school .net account!
2) Student familiarizes themself with the website by clicking on things and exploring
3) Student scrolls through the "stream" to catch up. Start at the bottom
Activity: Go to the website classroom.google.com and follow any steps you need to complete to register. Use the class code 7mfy5cb to sign into the Physical Education 2019-2020 page. Once inside the group, explore the page and catch up on the latest posts in the "stream". Check back often!
All physical activity links, pdf's, bonus exercise videos not found here, and ideas will be on this website AND in the google classroom group. The benefit of the google classroom group is that we can stay in touch and talk about sports a little more, watch the "Awesome video of the day", participate in weekly contests, and much much more.
