RedForEd Update to Parents and Staff/Comunicado Oficial Para Padres y Trabajadores

En resumen, el comunicado de Dr. Aguilera, Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Gadsden, explica lo siguiente:

Como parte del movimiento #RedForEd existe una gran probabilidad que los maestros en Arizona formen parte de un paro laboral para exigir al gobierno del estado más fondos y mejores recursos para las escuelas públicas.

Hasta el momento, no sabemos exactamente cuándo y/o cuantos días pueda extenderse este posible paro laboral. Los representantes del movimiento de cada escuela perteneciente al distrito escolar de Gadsden nos han asegurado que nos avisaran con tiempo acerca de sus decisiones/acciones.

Si los maestros de nuestras escuelas deciden participar en el paro laboral, las escuelas del distrito permanecerán cerradas.

La seguridad de los estudiantes es nuestra prioridad. Por lo tanto, les comunicaremos todos los detalles en cuanto tengamos más información.

Usaremos todas nuestras plataformas de comunicación (Facebook, páginas oficiales de cada escuela, mensajes, etc.) para mantenerlos al tanto.

SLMS teacher honored and invited to Robotics World Championship!

This is a great moment of pride for San Luis Middle School to inform that from thousands of robotics coaches across the world, Mr. Mehul Gandhi has been selected as a ‘Showcase Speaker’ at the FIRST® Robotics World Championship event in Texas, U.S. on April 18-21, and in Detroit, Michigan, on April 25-28. FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) became a game changer in the STEM world more than 25 years ago. This event will be attended by people all over the globe and will be telecasted across many nations.

Based on the experience with the robotics and the successful launch of first robotics team in San Luis Middle school and the community; Mr. Gandhi was recognized and shortlisted for a rigorous interview by a panel of experts in the field. Some of the experts on the panel were Vince Wilczynski, the Deputy Dean of the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science, and Dia Stolnitz, Director of Strategic Projects.

It is worth mentioning here that Mr. Gandhi was instrumental in inspiring the students to learn robotics and leading them to win the FIRST® Lego League County Championship in Yuma. His contribution to the STEM in the form of robotics challenge that led to FIRST® Tech Challenge impressed them. He was honored with a VIP invitation along with a return flight and lodging at their expense.

All 7th and 8th grade students will be testing in the areas of Writing, Reading, Math, and Science beginning on April 3, 2018. Students, please be in school and on time every day during testing days.

Successful First Annual Pajama Run!

Kudos to Mr. Jacobson for putting up an awesome event!
An impressive turnout of students along with parents marked the success of our first Annual Pajama Run Challenge on March 10. The presence of our principal, Mrs. Sanchez, added to the excitement among students, parents, and staff members alike!
The students loved the fun-filled and colorful event. Each participant was given a certificate, an event t-shirt, and emoji bracelets. The volunteers from San Luis High School NHS were in presence to troubleshoot any eventuality.

Thanks to Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Rosas, Ms. Almazan, Mr. Hernandez, Mrs. Flores, Mrs. Barajas, and Dr. Sharma who came to support the event!

As AzMERIT is approaching, and our teachers and students are working even hard to produce good results. Rigorous review of prior learning is going on in all the classes. Thanks to all the teachers and students for giving their best. With so much hard-work going on, there is no doubt that we will shine in AzMERIT!

First Annual Pajama Run Challenge

On March 10th, San Luis Middle School Scorpions will take the Pajama Run Challenge by competing with each other in a 4 kilometer run. The event will start sharp at 7:45 am and all students will leave the campus by 10:15 am.

The students are very excited and looking forward to take the challenge!

All participants will get a free shirt, free emoji bracelet, and a race bib.

The top three positions in the race will get medal.

San Luis Middle School Beats Yuma Schools to Bag Second Position in Yuma County MathCounts!

Kudos to our SLMS Mathletes for bringing the honor to participate at state level after winning two spots in the Yuma County MathCounts Competition on February 9! They earned this honor by defeating around 80 students from schools all across Yuma and Dateland. The following students participated:

Alejandro Ramirez

Paola Ruvalcaba won the second position and Yezenia Diaz earned 4th spot in the county. Their coach, Mr. Cesar Castro, prepared them very well for this competition. His hard work and constant support paid off!
